Annabelle McEwen is a Sydney based artist undertaking a Masters of Fine Art at The National Art School with a Bachelor of Fine Art from the same institution on Gadigal land. Her practice explores the possibility of user agency in an algorithmically curated digital landscape. She uses corrupted images of the body as a visual metaphor for the affect of cyber navigation on the individual. Mainstream algorithms and artificial intelligence are used to disrupt images, interfering with the capital-driven codified power of data collection, pattern recognition and algorithmically dictated scrolls. These virtual images are then transferred onto real-world substrates in an attempt to materialise the digital experience and to speculate on existential futures.
